Most first-time visitors assume they've missed the connection and return to street level. The bridge entrance is one flight up, through the unmarked fire door that doesn't look like it opens to anything.

The crossing itself is a thirty-foot enclosed span with original 1924 industrial windows on both sides. The north-facing panes overlook the Ledger's interior courtyard—a three-story brick well that was once a loading zone and is now used for bicycle storage and the occasional pop-up installation. The south side frames a narrow view down to Westminster, where the streetcar tracks are still visible under the recent repaving.

The annex layout

Once across, the Ledger annex unfolds as a series of offset half-floors connected by short staircases. The building was constructed in two phases twenty years apart, and the floor elevations never quite matched. The result is a layout that feels more like a coastal fort than an office building: rooms step down into other rooms, hallways jog unexpectedly, and ceiling heights vary by four feet within the same tenant space.

The fifth-floor annex level holds three active studios and a shared fabrication workshop that rents time by the half-day. The workshop keeps a waiting list through their voicemail system—leave your name and they'll call back when a slot opens, usually within two weeks.

The return route

The skybridge only connects at five, but the Ledger annex has its own street entrance on Mathewson if you'd rather not retrace your steps. The door is between the frame shop and the shuttered travel agency, marked only by the building number in brass numerals above the transom. It's a useful exit if you're heading toward the Fenner Arcade or the river.

The Wheelwright elevator requires a key after 6 PM on weekdays and all day Sunday, but the Ledger annex stairwell stays accessible until the last studio tenant leaves, typically around nine. If you're planning an evening visit to the fabrication workshop, confirm the annex access code when you reserve your time slot—they change it monthly and don't post it anywhere public.
