The Garrison Room holds three nights in early March
Location and entry
The Garrison Room sits behind a brick passage off Exchange Terrace, between the bank facade and the loading court. The door is unmarked but unlatched Thursday through Saturday evenings starting March 2nd. Entry is from the terrace side; the rear stair does not connect.
The hall holds forty-eight. Seating is benches and folding chairs arranged in three rows. The ceiling is low and the acoustics are direct. Most people arrive between 7:45 and doors at eight.
Schedule for the week
Thursday, March 2nd: A reading series curated by the Ashton Exchange. Three readers, twenty minutes each, followed by a brief intermission. The lineup rotates but the format holds. Starts at 8:15; over by 9:40.
Friday, March 3rd: Chamber quartet working through recent compositions. Two sets with a short break. The ensemble rehearses in the mill district and books the Garrison Room twice a season. Expect strings and one woodwind. Doors at eight; music starts at 8:30.
Saturday, March 4th: Open format night. Sign-up sheet available at the door for five-minute slots. Performance, spoken word, demonstration—anything that fits the room. The list fills quickly. If you plan to participate, arrive before 7:50. Show runs until ten or the list ends.
Practical notes
The room does not serve food or drinks. A few people bring coffee from the cafe two blocks north on Weybosset, but it's not expected. The space stays cool; bring a layer.
There is no advance ticketing. Entry is first-come and the benches fill by 8:10 on Friday and Saturday. Thursday tends to have open seats until closer to start time.
The Garrison Room runs events in clusters—three nights, then dark for weeks. If you want to hold a slot for a future reading or performance night, ask at the intermission on Thursday or speak with the hall manager before Saturday's open format begins. They book the next cycle in late March.
No formal intermission on Saturday unless the list runs long. Thursday and Friday both break once, around the halfway mark.
